I believe that jewelry has the power to adorn the heart as well as the body. Jewelry can provide a reminder of a serene setting, even when we are in the midst of chaos. Connection with nature heals and makes us whole.

Awareness of the feel of the beads against the backs of our neck or swinging gently from our ears or slipping around our wrists bring us back into our bodies and balances our lives.

My jewelry is designed to answer that need for balance in our busy lives: both in the life of the wearer and in that of the viewer.

I am fascinated by the often-unnoticed gradations of color in nature, the range of blues in the wake of a ship, the depths and variations of green in a forest, the shading from blue to black in the night sky. I enjoy the challenge of reflecting samples of nature, slices of forest, sea, or sky.

My recent passion is bead pictures which create an impressionistic sense of place or person. The work is slow, as each bead is selected for a location and stitched to the beads near it, gradually forming a cloth made solely of beads and thread. I start from a photo or collage or drawing and use it to guide my choices of colors, textures, directions of line, and scale of beads. As the beaded portions grow, they sometimes take on a life of their own, and take me in new directions. This work gives me opportunities to bring in more of my art training and is deeply satisfying.

As I continue to explore this area, I am developing new ways to mount and enjoy the beaded pictures.
